1. Correct Alignment from the Tee
Many novice golfers struggle to realize precisely where they are aiming from the tee. This problem can be overcome by selecting a prominent nearby target, say, 10 or 20 yards away, such as a visible piece of debris. It is far easier to correctly align the feet (and hence hips and shoulders) with the nearer target than the target area where the ball is intended to land. The same technique can be used on shorter shots from the fairway.

2. Correcting a Fade or Slice
A fade or slice is caused by striking across the golf ball, imparting unwanted sidespin, causing it curve towards the right (assuming the player is right handed). On addressing the ball, ensure the clubface is square to the target and not "open," i.e. pointing to the right of the target. The point of impact with the ball is the crucial factor, as a slice is often caused by swinging at the ball too fast. Keep hands relaxed through the impact area, allowing the club to release forward, then across the body.

3. Correcting a Pull or Hook
A pull or hook is the opposite of a fade / slice, causing the ball to curve to the left (for a right-hander). The problem can be helped by allowing the lead arm (left arm for a right-hander and right arm for a left-hander). Keep the other arm relaxed so that it does not come across the ball too quickly.

4. More Loft from Fairway Woods
Many golfers "top" the ball with fairway woods, as a result of trying to "pick up" the ball cleanly from the turf. Though it is unlikely to feature in golfing textbooks, there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking a small divot with a fairway wood. Furthermore, as with all golf shots, keep the head down and be certain to get through the ball. This should result in high-flying, confidence-inspiring wood shots from the fairway.

5. Better Contact with Long Irons
The majority of golfers have something of a "mental block" over hitting long (2-4) irons, hence the recent popularity of the hybrid club. Agreed, the long irons are the most difficult clubs in the bag to hit, but a few small adjustments can greatly improve performance with long irons. Players tend to tense their arms, failing to allow the club to do the work. Line up the stance with the ball 2 inches inside your front foot. Stand tall, keeping the club at a relaxed position and concentrate on a high swing plane.

6. More Accurate Mid-Irons
For improved accuracy with mid (5-7) irons, position the ball near the middle of the stance and bend the knees only slightly. Do no straighten or bend knees further on swinging back and through the ball.

7. More Accurate Short Irons
With short (8-iron to SW) irons, the shorter the club, the further back in the stance the ball needs to be played. Move closer to the ball to maintain a high swing plane. Keep arms loose, grip firm and legs still in order to make solid contact.

8. Higher-Flying Pitch Shots
The loft of any club can be increased by opening the clubface. Also, use an open stance and follow through across the body. Stay down on the shot, keeping hands and arms relaxed, being sure to follow through. Aim a little left of the target, as the open face and stance will cause the ball to fly slightly right (similar to a bunker shot).

9. Better Chip Shots
Move the ball back in the stance and make sure hands stay in front of the club face throughout the swing. Keep hands firm and shorten the swing to avoid errors.

10. Better Putting
The best view of how a putt will break can be obtained by looking at it from different angles. Line up the ball logo on the correct line and trust the alignment, despite the break perhaps looking different from behind the ball.

I know you are just an amateur golfer who is out to have some fun. But even then you need to know a few tricks and tips to improve your golf swing. This will help you to play your corporate peers better and earn a few brownie points and give a fillip to your popularity. Let me give you a few handy golfing tips that will improve your swing super fast and you will soon start earning accolades on the field.

Correct swing tempo

The tempo of a swing and a pitching wedge while using a driver happens to be the same.  Again when you take a full swing you get the same tempo, regardless of the kind of club you use. If you can maintain the consistency of your tempo, you will also be able to maintain the consistency in contact and this will lead to accurate shots. 

If you wish to ensure a proper swing, you have to allow your arms to lead and using your arms you draw away the club smoothly.  Then you have to allow your body to follow. And this stance will also shift your weight automatically from your left to right side because the left hips and shoulders turn obediently.  Almost 90% of your body weight will rest on your back foot when you are performing the top of the swing.

When you are at the top of your swing and wish to gain some accuracy over your shot, pull with your left arm. And next, you shouldn’t ape the leading down swinging move performed by pros. They gain a lot of power from it, but you are an amateur golfer and such an action might result in the ball sliding forward and then you will experience slicing, weak shots.

Maintain the balance of your swing

Use the middle 3 fingers and turn the club loose. Then using your thumb you have to balance the club. The little finger will grip the club only when you are at the top of your backswing. You also have to turn your shoulders to an exact degree in such a way that your target and your club are in line. I always recommend this valuable exercise to work your left thumb under the shaft. This move will keep the club balanced and you will be ready for hitting.

Unless you know how to correctly grip the club, you won’t get a good hold nor will you be able to put it in the proper slot and of course making winning shots is completely out of the question. That is because you won’t be able to get the ball through properly.

The Set-up

The key element of a bad golf swing is sometimes not the golf swing itself but the most of the time it is the golfer’s set-up. The set-up may pertain to different things like the golfer’s clubs, his accessories, the clothes and etcetera. Some golfers think that a good set-up can make up for the lousy swing.

One of the most crucial mistakes that a golfer can make is underestimating the time spent on the set-up than the game. Some even think that they can have all the names in golf with them and just whack the ball silly. It may have worked for Happy Gilmore but it sure won’t work for Average Joe and his lousy swing because Happy Gilmore is in a movie and Average Joe is not.

One of the most important things that you should remember is that the set-up should not pertain to the clothes you wear and the clubs you carry, but it should mean the preparation for your swing.

Bad Posture can kill your game

If you are one of those golfers that overlook their posture, you should think of considering a new sport because golf is not for you. It is important in golf that you know when your posture is bad. The key element of a good swing is the proper alignment of your neck and head. The straight line that is formed by your head and neck will dictate the force of the drive that you can deliver to the ball and flight. Once you are hunched over the ball it will move to either sides or fall short of the green no matter how hard you hit it.

Another important factor is balance. You should have good balance to deliver a good amount of forward thrust to your swing. And unbalanced footing usually hinders a golfer from delivering the full impact of the club head motion to the ball. This is because of the uneasiness that the golfer feels about his stance. Delivering a solid blow usually means your footing should be sure. Posture and balance problems can easily be corrected with practice and good habits. Once your muscle memory is comfortable with the position you want to achieve you will have no problem at all.

Chicken Wings

Chicken wings are good especially after a good game of golf. But when you bring your chicken wings to the game, things will definitely turn out for the worse. It is better that you leave your chicken wings in a basket at home where they can be the perfect in game munchies.

When we say a chicken wing this means a bad habit a golfer may be doing when taking a swing. When putting or in a putting game, letting your arm and wrist go limp is what you call a chicken wing. What happens after this is that the golfer’s arm goes flying up in the air losing all the power to your swing.

Golfers who tend to take their swings lightly usually commit chicken wings. When you lose the power of your swing it usually ends up chopping or slicing your golf swing.

Many professional golfers use weights connected to their clubs in order to build the muscles that they use in their swing. By attaching a larger weight and swinging the golf club, it has the same effect as lifting weights. The weight of the club strains the muscles in a beneficial way, and increases the overall strength. If you feel the need to put more power into your swing, then this is a great way to work out the muscles. A beginning golfer will usually feel very unnatural when making the swing, and will not be very comfortable with the motion involved. Building the muscle will make it much more natural.

The speed of your swing will largely determine the weight of the club that you will want. If you have a fairly fast swing, a light golf club will usually be a better choice since it will allow you to make all of the force of your swing as fast as you can. If you tend to have a slower swing, the added weight at the end of the golf club will be quite helpful in adding more momentum. You might overshoot the first few hits with your new club, but if you get used to it you will notice a huge benefit from the weight. However, before you buy any golf club you should always try it out for a test game. This is the best way to make sure that you are buying something that will work out for the best in the end.

If you aren’t sure about what you should do to determine the golf club head weight that is optimal for you, you should probably look for advice from a seasoned golfer who will have a much more thorough knowledge of the sport than you do. You can ask your golfing buddy for some advice, your you can go to the golf club store and see if they have any words of wisdom that will help you out. Your goal is to buy the club that is perfect for your swinging style, since anything else can greatly disrupt your game. Someone with the right eye and the thorough knowledge of golf clubs will be able to help you choose this ideal club without too much of a hassle.

Picking a golf club is never easy or fast, and it is often not cheap. Keep this in mind while you are looking for the golf clubs that you want, and you will not be surprised by the experience in the least. Just persevere and use as many resources as you can, and you will be able to accomplish your goal.

Because of the popularity of golf in almost all of the countries of the world, many people have come up with instructional guides, books and CDs that could help improve the golfer’s swing. Some of them are effective with some people and some of them are not. The reason behind this difference in the output is the human anatomy. There are no two people that are exactly alike in the same way no two golf swings are alike. Because of the body structure of some people, there are techniques that really don’t work for them.

For example a stocky golfer would have a hard time matching the flexibility and nimbleness of a slender golfer and in return the slender golfer will have a hard time matching the power of the swing of the stocky golfer. Because of the stockiness of golfer A, he is able to use his broad shoulders in smashing the golf club far, but because of the nimbleness and flexibility of golfer B he is able to reach farther behind his back to give his club a wider range of motion for the swing creating a higher velocity impact on the ball.

The outcome of the distance of the two golfer’s swing maybe the same but the technique is different with each golfer. This difference in technique is because of the difference of the body type.

Another way to look at your golf swing is with the help of mathematics and a little bit of physics. When you look at it this way you will be able to see the impact of the numbers on your game. A study shows that most professional golf players achieve a club head speed of 100 miles per hour at the very bottom of their swing right before they hit the ball. Tiger Woods can swing up to 125 miles per hour that means he can hit 25 mph faster that other pros.

He achieves this by reaching farther back on his set up that most golfers. Physicist have already studied golf in relation to the angular motion and the torque force that changes the angle of the club when it hits the ball. Velocity is also an important factor in your golf swing. Almost all club heads weigh the same and for a golfer to hit the ball farther they need to achieve maximum club velocity or they must have higher club head speed at the bottom of their swing.

One of the most common misconceptions that a golfer has is snapping the wrist right before impact is like pressing the nitro button in the straightaway lane. When golfers do this they are actually slowing down the velocity of the club head making the golf swing lighter. This is a bad habit that should be avoided.

This usually happens when a golfer is standing to close to the ball during the golf swing.
