Do You Want To Enjoy Golf More?

We all enjoy the game of golf, but there are times when we wish we had never picked up a club. You can make those times less frequent by using a few of these suggestions.

1. Don’t ride, walk the course. Some suggest that walking is not only the purist way to enjoy the sport, but it can also help your game. Walking gives you more opportunity to scan the layout of each hole and consider the best strategy for your next shot. By walking, you’ll also benefit by getting some exercise. And, if you regularly ride in a golf cart, you can save some cash on cart rental fees. With a little of the cash you save, you can afford to buy yourself a golf pull cart and you won’t even have to carry your bag.

2. Don’t play the blue tees. Unless you are at least a ten handicap or lower, why make the game even harder than it has to be. If you are shooting in the 90s or 100s, it makes no sense to make the game any more difficult. Take the extra level of anxiety out of mind and body and play the white tees.

3. Play different games.Instead of playing the same old match with your buddies, compete in categories other than score. Most fairways hit, most up and downs, or most 1 putts might be some examples.

4. If it is your honor, embrace it.You just birdied the hardest (or easiest) hole on the golf course, it’s your tee, you earned it, take it. Challenge yourself to get another one; you will be surprised how often you can have two birdies in a row if you are actually trying.

5. Improve the ball’s lie. When you are playing a recreational round of golf, it isn’t necessary to play by the strict rules of golf.If everyone played by these rules, the average round of golf would be at least 6 hours at courses all over the world. Golfers would be returning to the tees all day after hitting there first ball out bounds, or searching for every lost ball for 5 minutes. So if we are bending the rules to save time, why not bend them for something you can actually benefit from. Play winter rules all the time.

6. Lower your expectations. An average golfer plays twice a week if they are lucky. Besides that, you don’t practice as much as you should. You can’t honestly think that your game is exactly what it should be. Don’t be so hard on yourself when you’re not playing well, just enjoy the game itself. Even the pros have bad days.

If you use a few of these suggestions: play the white tees, walk with a golf push cart, give yourself a good lie, don’t play for the best score, play for the honor, and be realistic about your expectations, the game will be much more enjoyable.
