TaylorMade were renowned as one of the first offering golfers the power to change a clubhead’s centre of gravity of their clubs to promote different types of ball flight with moveable weights, now with the twist of a free wrench supplied with each driver, the golfer can change the face angle of the TaylorMade R9 driver, and that means upto 24 different ball flight options. By changing a clubhead’s characteristics (face angle, lie and loft) engineers effectively provide a DIY trajectory facility for every golfer prepared to spend 400 quid for the privilege. These very adjustable drivers are not cheap golf clubs until you come to some online golf stores.

The R9 utilizes Taylor Made’s legendary “Movable Weight Technology (MWT)” that was 1st introduced with the r7 metalwood product line. That technology allows players to change the clubs center of gravity by moving weight in different places, therefore promoting different launch conditions. Along with MWT, the R9 introduces a brand new feature, named Flight Control Technology (FCT). FCT gives the player the ability to adjust the loft, lie, and face angle of the club. This added technology with MWT makes the R9 driver virtually 24 drivers in 1. Being able to change and utilize these features truly makes the R9 driver suitable for all types of players, from touring professionals to high-handicappers.

Using a simple bolt positioned in the clubhead the TaylorMade R9 driver can be used in eight different positions and golfers can change position in seconds. This adaptability allows the R9 to promote shots which are higher, carry further and move right to left, which are lower, controlled and move left to right or which are neutral, mid height and straight. This makes the R9 one of the most workable and adaptable clubs on the market.

With its headshape the TaylorMade R9 driver has been described as a combination of the classical shape of the R7 Superquad and the triangular R7 Limited in what TaylorMade are calling ‘new classic’. It is certainly a handsome club that looks well at all angles, particularly at set up. At only 420cc or thereabouts, the head is neat and compact and with its deep face has a smaller footprint at address even at the end of a 45 inch shaft that is shorter than the typical modern standard of 46 inches. And you can find the R9s sold as cheap golf clubs online for they are on discounts.
